Celebrating black history month with an old tradition

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - The McIntosh Shouters performed the ring shout for students and faculty at Savannah Tech Tuesday.

Dating back hundreds of years from African tradition, this dance is a part of a rich heritage that the shouters want to pass on to a new generation.

"We want them to understand just where it came from. That's why we're keeping it going, because they have to know. It didn't just spring up from nowhere. This is where it was from. This is the root of it, right here," said Venus McIver.

The McIntosh Shouters recently performed in Washington D.C. at The Library of Congress and The Kennedy Center, but they said they're glad to be back home.
