Making sure firefighters' tireless work doesn't go ignored

ATLANTA, GA (WTOC) - It was Firefighters' Recognition Day in Atlanta Tuesday.

Governor Nathan Deal handed out special honors for heroic deeds. Among them, Savannah's own firefighters Brian Stafford and Justin Crain along with Captains Paul Phillips and Michael Taylor.

Each man risked life and limb to rush into the burning woods of Savannah and rescue victims.

After their trip, they dropped by WTOC to let us see the Valor awards they received up close. But it wasn't about the awards for the heroes.

This was the 39th year the State Capitol hosted the event to pay tribute to our firefighting community.
