More and more Third ID soldiers are returning home daily. Today, several different groups were reunited with their loved ones at Fort Stewart. Hundreds arrived early this afternoon, with more expected later. WTOC was there for the happy homecomings.
They were the tip of the spear in Iraq, and soldiers with the Third Battalion, 15th Infantry and First Battalion, 64th Armor are finally home. Many haven't seen their families for seven months to nearly a year.
"We actually had a false alarm," military wife Renee Camper told us. "We thought he wasn't on the plan cause his name wasn't on the list, but we found him."
"This prayer's answered," added mother Joyce Augustus. "And he looks good. I thank God for him being home. I thank God for all of the servicemen, for what they have done, the price that they have paid."
The center of attention, SFC Nixon Camper, Jr., had this to say: "It's great, that's all I can say."
