Counting down to training for a journey of a lifetime

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) – Have you noticed more people out walking and running around lately? There's a big reason. The Rock N' Roll Marathon's coming to town. I am among the runners getting ready.

This marathon has just about everybody talking around town. Now Fleet Feet Sports Savannah, the official Savannah Rock N' Roll marathon and half marathon trainer, is offering boot camps that begin in just a couple of weeks to get even those of us who aren't in tip top shape now, ready for the November run.

Hundreds of people are signing up for the training programs. Fleet Feet promises that this will be unlike any other program the area has ever seen. It will start slowly to give everyone a chance to get in shape before hitting the pavement to run.

"What happens when you get out on the road too fast too early in most training programs people wind up getting hurt. Our goal is not to whip you into shape, our goal is to get you at the starting line. get you to finish that half marathon or marathon if you choose to do that and then we will celebrate afterwards," explains Robert Espinoza, owner of Fleet Feet Sports Savannah.

"We're going to include food, nutrition, injury prevention. We will go on field trips to the grocery store. We'll have access to Ft. Pulaski. We'll have access to different neighborhoods and run in different areas so we will keep it really fun," adds Lydia DePue, certified trainer, Fleet Feet Sports Savannah.

There are now 24 of us on the WTOC Team gearing up for this awesome journey. We want you to join our team. Just let Fleet Feet know when you register.

There is also another informational meeting where you can learn everything that you need to know about all of the training programs next Wednesday, February 9 at 6 p.m. at Fleet Feet Sports Savannah.
