SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - One man was taken into custody on Thursday morning after he fled from police during a traffic stop by a Georgia State Patrol trooper.
Emerson Perry, 54, was pulled over on Interstate 95. He initially stopped, but then jumped back into his car and sped away.
The trooper pursued Perry down I-95 into Savannah reaching speeds over 90 mph. The pursuit ended near mile marker 9 on Highway 204 when Perry jumped out of his vehicle and fled on foot into a wooded area.
Authorities established a perimeter and called in air support. Savannah-Chatham Metro police and Richmond Hill police quickly tracked Perry and took him into custody.
Additional Richmond Hill officers, the ATF and SCMPD gun detectives also responded to search Perry's vehicle. Inside, they found several illegal weapons inside. Perry is a convicted felon.
He was taken to the Bryan County Jail. The Richmond Hill Police Department is assuming the case.
