Savannah man to be put to death next week

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - A Savannah native will soon be executed by the state. Prosecutors have rejected a request for more DNA tests for Roy Blankenship.

He is set to be put to death on Feb. 9 for the rape and murder and 78-year-old Sarah Mims Bowen on Abercorn Street more than 30 years ago.

A spokesman for the Chatham County District Attorney's Office says the request was denied because courts have already twice rejected similar requests.
