SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - The City of Savannah and the Bonaventure Historical Society, Inc. will unveil their newly installed information kiosk in Bonaventure Cemetary on Tuesday, Feb. 15 at 2 p.m.
The new kiosk will allow visitors to look up names and determine the exact location with cemetary maps and users will be able to print those maps even when the office is closed.
The kiosk is touch screen and contains interment records and maps from Bonaventure, Colonial Park, Laurel Grove and Greenwich cemeteries. The records date back to 1750 and are updated daily.
The computer database has been under contruction since 1995 and the Bonaventure Historial Society will now have access to the information for their visitor's center which is located in the Bonaventure Administrative Building on weekendds.
The kiosk was funded by the City of Savannah, the Bonaventure Historical Society and through a National Park Service America Grant.
The goal is to install kiosk in other municipal cemeteries and make that information available to the public online.
