BEAUFORT CO., SC (WTOC) - Beaufort County Sheriff's Office investigators are searching for two Beaufort women who are wanted connection with a series of forged checks that were issued to local area businesses.
Antwonisha Smith, 29, and Estella Patricia Smalls, 44, are wanted on outstanding warrants for Forgery after counterfeit checks produced by Smalls were cashed at a Hilton Head Publix on Dec 23 and a Bi-Lo on Dec 24, according to the sheriff's office. They remain at large.
Using the routing number from a check that had been legitimately written to a Beaufort church, Smalls created counterfeit checks with check-printing software, according to the sheriff's office.
The forged checks were cashed by Smith and two other co-defendants: Smalls' husband, Anthony Curtis Johnson, 50; and niece, 21-year old Constance Caress Wiggs, according to the sheriff's office. Johnson was arrested on Jan. 28. Wiggs was arrested on Jan. 31.
Smalls is a black female who is about 5 feet tall and weighs 289 lbs. Smith is also a black female who as about 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighs 145 lbs.
