AAA: Ridgeland speed cameras cut down on crashes

RIDGELAND, SC (WTOC) - There has been a lot of controversy over the speed cameras set up along Interstate 95 in Ridgeland and a federal lawsuit is challenging their legality.

On Tuesday, AAA released a statement saying the cameras are working and even cutting down on the number of highway deaths.

In the seven months before the cameras were put up, four people were killed and nine others were seriously hurt in crashes.

Since the cameras, there has not been a single crash which led to a hospital trip along the seven mile stretch of interstate passing through Jasper County.
