Low Country Fire Departments Expand Education Program

The City of Beaufort and the Town of Port Royal Fire Departments are now teaching more fire education and public safety courses. The fire departments have expanded their fire education and are now teaching a number of public safety classes, like one today at Beaufort High School, where firefighters taught teachers and hall monitors ways to get wheelchair-bound students down the stairs during a fire drill. It's knowledge that could help save lives.

Beaufort Fire Marshal Dan Byrne said, "When the emergency hits sometimes there's not a lot of time to figure things out. So it's a good time for them to actually practice it and get their hands on some equipment."

Firefighters are also teaching fire extinguisher training, general fire safety, CPR, and a number of other public safety courses. For more information, contact Beaufort FD at 843.525.7055, ask for Fire Marshal Dan Byrne.
