Trolleys destroyed by overnight fire in Savannah

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - A Savannah tour company will be short two trolleys after a fire Monday morning.

Savannah Fire & Emergency Services firefighters were dispatched just after 1 a.m. to the Old Town Trolley Co. at 234 MLK, Jr. Blvd. Firefighters encountered flames in the company's vehicle storage building.

Firefighters saw that the flames were coming from the engine compartment of one of the trolleys.

The affected trolley sustained severe fire damage and a second trolley sustained moderate damage both from the fire extending to it and from salvage operations performed by firefighters, according to Savannah Fire and Emergency Services.

Firefighters were able to keep the fire from extending to the actual building, but the facility sustained minor smoke and water damage.

There were no injuries.

Preliminary indications show that the fire erupted in the engine compartment of the first trolley, which the tour company said had been undergoing some maintenance prior to the time of the fire, according to SFES.
