SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - A man accused of invading a Savannah home is still in jail. Thirty-six-year-old Leland Jones was denied bond. He was arrested Saturday morning after a woman said he broke into her house demanding money. And after he took what he wanted, he tried to tie the woman up with a shoestring. When police tried to arrest him, he took one of their guns and it went off during the struggle. Fortunately, no one was injured.
The victim of the home invasion was asked not to reveal her identity.
"When I looked back and they took him out and they just had him standing there and I saw some of his movements I said, 'My God, that looks like my neighbor's son,' but I wasn't sure then until they matched the name and unfortunately that's who it turned out to be," the victim told WTOC.
Leland Jones was charged with burglary, robbery, parole violation and removal of a firearm from a public official. All four charges are felony offenses.
Jones is expected to be back in court on Feb. 23.
