RINCON, GA (WTOC) - Nothing but ash was left of a yard in Rincon after a "burning pile" got out of control Monday evening.
Rincon Fire said the flames came very close to nearby houses.
Neighbors sprung into action before firefighters arrived.
"We were hitting it with a blanket and some water and he had a hose he was spraying it. When it got over here to this house it really picked up," said Judy Miller of Rincon.
The fire even jumped a road and started burning under a car.
Neighbors said a few minutes longer and the car would have been toast.
Officials say that with the dry and windy weather, not the time to burn.
