SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - Downtown Savannah's newest gym got its official city welcome on Broughton Street on Wednesday afternoon.
The ceremonial ribbon cutting took place outside the old Downtown Athletic Club, where LAVA 24 Fitness is now helping to anchor the Bull and Broughton corridor. LAVA opened its doors at the end of November, taking over for another gym which closed after only a few months.
President Tia Casady and manager Paul Smith say the new gym is off to a strong start, with numbers already suprassing its predecessor. They say the fitness center offers lower membership prices with more services, including massage and tanning.
"It's refreshing. Tia brings a great energy to the gym and everything is going great. So far, so good," Smith told WTOC.
Alderman Van Johnson helped welcome the new business, which is the latest of several other businesses to relocate in downtown Savannah.
LAVA 24 Fitness is open Monday through Friday 6 a.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday Noon to 5 p.m., and is offering all kinds of specials, including many new free services and classes.
The ribbon cutting celebration was hosted by the Savannah Development and Renewal Authority.
