Crews battle brush fires in 2 counties February 17, 2011 at 4:50 AM EST - Updated June 23 at 10:33 AM By Brian Entin - bio | email SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - It seems like they are popping up all the time lately - brush fires. On Wednesday, crews battled brush fires in Bryan and Chatham counties. One of them came very close to a neighborhood and apartment complex off of Georgia 204 and Grove Point Road. The fire was between a set of railroad tracks and a lake, so Southside Fire crews said it wasn't putting homes in danger. "If it happens to jump the break tonight we will come out and put it out. Other than that we are going to let it burn itself out," said Lt. Lou Reed with Southside Fire. The fire was still burning late into the evening on Wednesday. Fire crews came back out to the scene to check on it and said it was still not putting any nearby residents in danger. "We will continue to monitor it," Reed said. Another brush fire burned nearly 50 acres in Bryan County on Wednesday. That fire is also under control according to officals. Copyright 2011 WTOC. All rights reserved.
