Four officers earn 200 Club's Valor Award

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - The 200 Club of The Coastal Empire bestowed the Annual Valor Award to Sgt. Marty Adams, Cpl. Ralph Dixon, Trooper Eric Wilkes and Officer Mark Rich on Thursday night.

All four helped chase a man thought to be involved in several cases, from burglary to arson. When he started shooting, they fired back. They survived and are humbled by the award.

"It's a very humbling experience. It's a shame that a tragedy has to bring about some of these things. But sometimes, a tragedy brings out the best in everybody," said Wilkes.

"To be recognized for doing our community a good deed and being able to come out of it on the winning side as opposed to having another police funeral, it's just overwhelming to get the recognition," said Officer Mark Rich.

Along with the plaques and the sincerest of gratitude, each also walked away with $2,500.
