SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - The Old Savannah City Mission is expanding.
Saturday, volunteers helped to start the second phase of a shelter for women and children. Right now the Old Savannah City Mission only has an emergency shelter for men. But they've decided to shut down their thrift store and turn that into the new shelter.
"It will keep 100 homeless women and children off the streets. They'll have a place to come to eat, sleep, shower, get clothes, and be taken care of, instead of being on the streets", said Raymond Williams the event organiser.
The new shelter is a privately funded project.
