JASPER COUNTY, SC (WTOC) - The Jasper Port project may be put on hold indefinitely.
South Carolina's ports chief is stopping funding for the new terminal along the Savannah River.
State ports authority chairman Bill Stern said there's no need for South Carolina to put more money into the joint project with georgia, until the issue of deepening the Savannah Harbor Is solved.
The two states own a 1,500 acre site on the South Carolina side of the Savannah River that has been proposed as a location for a new port.
South Carolina officials say a new plan to deepen the waterway would put the Jasper County site out of commission for at least fifty years.
