TYBEE ISLAND, GA (WTOC) - It's time to pucker up and kiss a pig!
The 19th annual Kiss-A-Pig celebration got underway at Doc's Bar on Tybee Island with a sock hop and party.
There was plenty of food fun and music. Pink squares were sold for $1 each to benefit the American Diabetes Foundation.
The "kiss a pig" phrase was coined because the insulin used to treat diabetes used to come from pigs.
"We actually have a real pig and there are several teams competing throughout the Chatham County area and the team that raises the most money gets to physically kiss the pig", said Mimi Pinner with the American Diabetes Association.
Saturday's event is just the first of several in the area for the "Kiss A Pig" campaign.
