Contract for jail expansion to be signed on Thursday

CHATHAM COUNTY, GA (WTOC) - There will be a signing ceremony at Chatham County Commission Chairman Pete Liakakis' office on Thursday, Feb. 24 for the contract between the county and Hunt/Mills Construction for expansion of the Chatham County Detention Center.

The contract was awarded at $70,734,000 and is part of the 2007-2014 SPLOST approved by voters.

The project will take two and a half years to complete and will add 1136 beds to the detention center.

The ground breaking ceremony will take place within the next few weeks.
