SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) – Students from the Culinary Institute of Savannah at Savannah Technical College took home a bronze medal and won the Southeast Region Baron H. Galand Culinary Knowledge Bowl.
The event was held Feb. 18 to 21 and took place at the 2011 ACF Southeast Regional Conference held at the Hilton in Atlanta.
The team is made up of members of ACF Chefs of the Low Country: Jocelyn Brantley, Cassandra M. Gillmore, Claudia C. Harper, Joshua A. Lopez and Angela N. Real. The team is coached by Valarie Barnes.
ACF knowledge bowl questions are drawn from five nationally published textbooks for culinary professionals that cover topics such as nutrition, safety and sanitation and the art of modern cooking.
Four student teams from Florida and Georgia competed for the Southeast Region title.
The Culinary Institute of Savannah team will compete for the national title against three other winning regional teams at the 2011 ACF National Convention in Dallas in July. The highest scorer will be named the ACF Baron H. Galand Culinary Knowledge Bowl winner for 2011.
