Computer Virus Causes Train Delays

If you're traveling by train, you might want to call ahead. CSX, the company that operates the lines freight and passenger trains run on in our area, suffered serious computer problems early this morning. Officials tell us a virus, possibly a variant of last week's Blaster worm, knocked computers offline and interrupted service. The computers manage certain systems, including signal, dispatching and other operating systems.

Local CSX representatives declined an interview, saying only the problem has caused some slowdown.

As of about 3pm, company officials say most trains are running again. But we do have a report from Amtrak that Train 98 from Miami, due in savannah just after 6pm tonight, will be about two hours late, arriving at 8:20pm.

It's always a good idea to call ahead when traveling to make sure everything's okay, especially with all the computer problems we've been having. Viruses like this have caused crashes all over the world and kept companies busy repairing the damage.
