PORT ROYAL, SC (WTOC) – The owner of a bull mastiff was arrested and charged after her dog attacked a 17-month-old boy, according to Port Royal police.
Port Royal Police Department were called on Feb. 19 to 22 Pennyroyal Lane on a report of a vicious animal attack.
When officers arrived, the boy had already been pulled to safety.
Mandy Spangler told police that her son was playing with a bicycle in the back yard near the fence when she noticed the neighbor's bull mastiff dog had her son by the leg trying to drag him under the fence, according to police.
Spangler and her friend ran over and grabbed her son. The dog released after a brief struggle. They ran into the house and called police.
The child was taken to the hospital by EMS with cuts to his leg from the bite.
The dog was owned and cared for by Katie Gottschalk, 24, of Port Royal, according to police. The dog was involved in a bite incident in October 2010.
Gottschalk was arrested and charged with dangerous animal attack on humans.
