Boot drive for firefighter with cancer

RINCON, GA (WTOC) - A firefighter is battling for his life and the community is helping him in this fight.

Springfield Fire Department rallied together on Saturday at the Wal-mart in Rincon for one of their own. Firefighter John Hughey got a devastating blow when doctors found a large tumor in his brain.

He's fighting stage three cancer and that's not all, Hughey has no insurance to pay for treatment. His fellow firefighters collected money with their work boots for one of their most dedicated firefighters.

"He is one that I can count on 24 hours a day, doesn't matter, rather it's a structure fire all the way to a person needing some help getting up, he's one that will always be there for us", said Jeff Labonte Springfield Fire Chef.

All proceeds collected at Saturday's Boot Drive went to benefit Hughey and his family.
