SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - To the tunes we'll hear frequently over the next few weeks, some four- hundred, mostly green-clad men marching at Benedictine Military School chose the man who'll lead Savannah's Saint Patrick's Day Parade.
It's a secretive process, a bit like electing a new Pope, without the smoke from some BC chimney, but very much behind closed doors.
This year, fairly quick results. Walter Crawford named Grand Marshal of the 187th annual parade.
Accepting congratulations from past leaders and sharing a laugh, he took a moment out to talk about what the honor means.
"This is the biggest day for any Irishman in Savannah, Georgia. I don't know anyone who's ever said that they deserved it, and I'm not going to be the first. What I will say is that I've got a whole lot of really good friends that have worked tirelessly for two years to make this day what it was."
Add another "once in a lifetime" memory for a man who's going to be very busy for the next few weeks.
