SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - Some folks lifting their voices in honor of their heritage.
Various gospel choirs came together at the Second St. John Missionary Baptist Church on Sunday night as a part of the church's first ever Black History Concert.
Folks sang old hymns and modern gospel songs set to narration.
Organizer, Derwin Jackson says "The day to day experiences of that time. The things that got them over; as we look back and we see the things that got them over, it kind of inspires us just a little bit to say 'hey, we don't have it as bad as we think' and it inspires us and encourages us to go on for another day."
The church hopes to hold the concert again next year.
