SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - United Way Hands On Savannah is seeking nominations for the 2011 Volunteer Recognition Awards. The program honors extraordinary volunteer work in Bryan, Chatham, Effingham and Liberty counties.
The deadline for nominations is March 8.
The awards will be presented at the 32nd Annual Volunteer Recognition Awards Luncheon, which takes place at 11:45 a.m. April 27 at Savannah Station.
Awards will be given out in these categories: Adult individual, youth individual (18 years or younger), adult group (three or more volunteers) and youth group (three or more volunteers 18 years or younger).
A panel of community leaders will select a winner and a finalist in each of these four categories. A $500 scholarship grant will be presented to the youth individual winner, and a $250 scholarship grant will be presented to the youth individual finalist.
The Herschel V. Jenkins Volunteer of the Year Award, honoring the late Herschel V. Jenkins, will be selected from winners in those four categories. The winner's non-profit program will be awarded $1,000 in honor of the winner.
The Anne Moy Education Award will go to an individual or group for outstanding dedication and service in the field of education.
