BEAUFORT, SC (WTOC) - After 39 years, a Beaufort man is returning "A Book of Snakes" back to the Shell Point Elementary School library. Media Specialist Kathleen McTeer says Jeff Rhoads never attended the school and did not know for sure how he ever aquired it. In a letter, the man said he remembers reading the book with children in the neighborhood. He returned the book Friday on the due date, Feb. 25, exactly 39 years late.
"I thought it was amazing because he had took such good care of the book that it lasted as long as it did and I just appreciated his efforts in returning it to the library," McTeer told WTOC.
Since the book is so old, McTeer says they will not be putting it back into circulation, but instead display it. And in case you were wondering, there is no fee for returning overdue books at the elementary school.
