SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - Leading the Coastal Empire's Irish Catholic families at the head of the St. Patrick's Day Parade is an honor few will ever know. But those who don the green and take on the responsibility become big-time celebrities, especially in the weeks before March 17.
This year's grand marshal, Walter Crawford, was invited to a big party held in his honor at the Exchange Club.
"It's gone from zero to 190,000 miles an hour. From the point on Sunday when the general chairman announced my name as the 2011 grand marshal, everything just went into hyperspace. We haven't slowed up a single bit," said Crawford.
The grand marshal, his family and parade committee members were all treated to a special performance by the St. Vincent's Choir and Irish music at the fairgrounds.
