STATESBORO, GA (WTOC) - Officers from Statesboro Police Department and several other agencies arrested 32 people as part of a drug investigation they've called "Operation Street Hustlers".

Detective Lt. Scott Brunson of Statesboro Police said officers began their investigation last summer based on complaints from neighbors of people selling drugs in their neighborhoods.

Officers made some arrests as early as last week, but carried out most of the 57 warrants on Wednesday one day after a special grand jury indicted the suspects.

"People should see a direct impact from this in terms of the drug activity on the streets," Brunson stated.

Some of the 32 suspects appeared before a judge for initial hearings, with more on Thursday. With some warrants outstanding, Brunson said more arrests will follow.

"In addition, some of these suspects may have information on other larger dealers and that could lead to more arrests as well." he noted.

Brunson also credited the operation's sucess to the assistance of other agencies, including the Bulloch County sheriff's office, Georgia Southern University police, Georgia Bureau of Investigation, the Drug Enforcement Agency, Georgia State Patrol, Tri-Circuit Task Force, Georgia Department of Probation and the Georgia Department of Parole.
