Lawyers to update judge on tri-state water dispute

ATLANTA (AP) - Lawyers will soon update a federal judge on the status of attempts to resolve a lingering water dispute between Georgia and Alabama.

Attorneys are scheduled to give U.S. District Court Judge Karon Bowdre an update Wednesday on attempts to settle a suit over the Alabama-Coosa-Tallapoosa river basin. The lawsuit filed by Alabama seeks to force the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to release more water for the Coosa River from Lake Allatoona in north Georgia.

It's one part of a larger water dispute between Alabama, Florida and Georgia. Bowdre has put the lawsuit on hold pending the result of negotiations between the states.
