CHATHAM COUNTY, GA (WTOC) - K-9's from across the state are gathering at the Hilton Garden Inn on Clyde E. Martin Drive for an annual canine training seminar that dogs and their handlers must go through for state certification. The dogs will be put through a host of different situations looking for weapons and drugs in cars, open fields and buildings.
"A lot of our searches are for, we go out and help our sister agencies looking for weapons, sometimes if the criminals are out and used it in a murder or a crime we'll go out and try and find the gun for them. Helping them out it just makes it a lot easier on all of the officers around us because these dogs have a much better nose than we have and they're able to find things we would never even think to look at," said Pvt. Jason Livie, Chatham County Sheriff's Office.
The training will wrap up on Friday, March 25.
