City notifies of sewage spill

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - The City of Savannah is notifying the public of a sewage spill that happened on Friday, March 18 at 13 Nina Court. The city says a blockage in the sewer main between a manhole near lift station 14, Paradise Park Lift Station, and a manhole in the street caused an overflow into a storm inlet.

According to the city, an estimated 33 gallons of sewage was spilled into the Harmon Canal and under Environmental Protection Division guidelines qualifies as a minor spill.

City water and sewer crews were notified of the spill at 11:15 a.m. and by 12:20 p.m. the sewer blockage was cleared, the storm main was cleaned and the main was jetted and cleaned.

It is required by state law for the city to notify the public of such spills.
