Fort Stewart soldier killed in Iraq

FORT STEWART, GA (WTOC) - A Fort Stewart soldier was killed while supporting Operation New Dawn, the U.S. Department of Defense announced Tuesday.

Cpl. Brandon S. Hocking, 24, of Seattle, died March 21 in As Samawah, Iraq, when enemy forces attacked his unit with a improvised explosive device, according to the DOD.

He was assigned to the 87th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, 3rd Sustainment Brigade, 3rd Infantry Division, Fort Stewart.

Hocking was on his second deployment. He deployed last April and was set to come home in less than a month.
