Students start schoolyard garden

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - A local elementary school got a fresh start Wednesday.

Shuman Elementary School pulled out their shovels for city officials as they broke ground on their new garden. Faculty and staff say this garden presents an excellent learning opportunity.

"It grew out of a grass roots interest among our staff and our students in the ecology, and the environment, and healthy living," said Diane Towles, principal at Shuman Elementary School.

The students are equally excited about doing what they say is their part in helping the community and the environment.
