SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - After representing members of the city of Savannah for a decade and half as Alderman of District 5, Clifton Jones says it's time to and let someone else have a turn. He had a stroke late last year, which factored into his decision.

Jones said he will miss serving his community and the people at City Hall. Jones said he will still be around, attending City Council meetings after his term is over when he can.

"After the stroke I had a warning and that warning was slow down. So that is what I will do at the end of the year," Jones said.

Jones is a lifetime resident of Savannah. He was elected to City Council in 1995. He is currently serving his fourth term as District 5 Alderman.

The election for the District 5 seat is Nov. 8.
