After 9/11, President Bush advocated initiatives to get communities more involved in homeland security. As part of that initiative, the American Red Cross and Jasper County Emergency Management Services are teaming up to begin a community emergency response team (CERT) in Jasper County. In an emergency situation, CERTs will assist first responders with tasks from directing traffic to helping firefighters.
The Red Cross is looking for volunteers for this program in Jasper County. Classes start Tuesday, September 23, at the Jasper County Emergency Services building at 6pm. To reserve a spot, call the Red Cross at 843.757.7437. More information on CERT training is available on FEMA's website.
