If you ride the Chatham Area Transit buses, get ready to dig a little deeper. The price went up today. It's now going to cost you at least $10 more per month for transportation. If you need more than one bus to complete your trip, it will cost even more.
The basic fare is up from 75 cents to $1. A book of ten tickets was $7.50, now it's $10. Your best buy is a weekly or monthly pass.
CAT officials say the fare increase couldn't be avoided. It had to be done to offset cutbacks in federal funding. Here's one bit of good news: the downtown shuttle will remain free.
