Tanger Outlet No. 1 kicks off its grand reopening Thursday.
The shopping center closed down last year to make some major renovations. The $50 million redevelopment investment is expected to give the area a big economic boost, bringing close to 40 stores and hundreds of jobs to the shopping center.
The 22-acre center is being called the first LEED certified green shopping center in Beaufort County.
"We are more energy efficient. We have an underground storm system that is state of the art. Our roofs are covered in white which is more energy efficient.[There's] quite a bit of recycling of plants and concrete. We are proud that we can go with LEED certified, especially in our community," said Ladonna Shamlou, the center's general manager.
The Tanger Factory Outlet centers will celebrate its gloriously green grand re-opening throughout the weekend. South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley and Steve Tanger were on hand for the ribbon cutting ceremony on Thursday morning.
