GSU presents Civil War Heritage Day

Georgia Southern is expanding its Camp Lawton Museum. Camp Lawton is a prisoner-of-war camp GSU anthropology students excavated in Jenkins County last year.

From 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. on April 16, GSU will present Civil War Heritage Day. Reenactors will show visitors the weapons, medicine and other parts of life from that period.

Organizers say this isn't about romanticizing the war or the issues that led to it.

"This anniversary is important because people still realize it's an event that reverberates through our culture in many ways," said GSU Museum Director Dr. Brent Tharpe.

The GSU museum is located right outside in Sweetheart Circle. Admission is $5.
