Remembering the war that divided a nation, then brought it together

FT. JOHNSON, SC (WTOC) - Guns were fired Tuesday just like they did 150 years ago near Fort Sumter, marking the anniversary of some the first shots of the Civil War.

At Fort Sumter at 4:30 a.m., coinciding with the exact moment of the first shot, a the beam of light split into two beams, signifying the division of the nation.

Then, shortly before sunrise, a star shell was fired over the harbor.
