There's another blow to plans for a port in Jasper County. The county wants to build a new terminal on the South Carolina side of the Savannah River. They've set up a contract with Stevedoring Services. The big problem is that the Georgia Ports Authority owns the land they want to build on.
Jasper County tried to condemn the land, to develop it and bring jobs to the area. But now the South Carolina Supreme Court says that's not proper condemnation. The ruling doesn't rule out all efforts to take the land, but there's no word from Jasper County what they'll try to do next to keep the port proposal alive.
