SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - The West Broad Street YMCA is kicking off its annual campaign on Thursday.
The annual campaign fund-raiser begins at noon April 21 at 1110 May St. in Savannah. The goal for the campaign this year is $20,000.
The West Broad Street YMCA is Savannah's only downtown Y and has an emphasis on helping children and families gain the skills needed to overcome poverty.
The West Broad Street YMCA is one of six Heritage YMCAs in the country. It's programs include: an early learning center serving 80 children six weeks to pre-K; an alternative school for middle school children in conjunction with the Savannah Chatham County Public School System, a GED program in cooperation with Savannah Technical College; a branch of Live Oak Public Library; and serves hundreds of children and families with tutorials; homework assistance; seminars; classes, recreation and fitness. It is also a Kids Cafe site with America's Second Harvest of Coastal Georgia, and a Little Red School House location for Title I tutorials.
"This is not all that we need," says Cooper, "But we wanted to use our campaign as a way to engage other people in the community to see what we are doing and support us in our work."
Donations or pledges can be made on line at www.westbroadstreetymca.org or directly at the Y at 1110 May Street. For more information contact Peter Doliber 912.233.1951.
