Heritage tournament kicks off

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, SC (WTOC) - The opening ceremonies of the 43rd annual Heritage tournament are under way Monday at the Harbour Town Golf Links.

The grandstands are completely full. Attendees are excited to see how this year is going to work out. Community support has been strong. At the opening ceremony, it's all about pageantry and celebration.

A representative from Columbia, S.C., said that Gov. Nikki Haley said there will absolutely be a title sponsor found for the event.

The chairman of the Heritage Classic Foundation said Simon Fraser it's the 25th anniversary of the foundation and that they plan to be here another 25 years no matter what it takes.

The opening ceremonies include bagpipe players, the Heritage Classic Foundation and defending champion Jim Furyk will hit the ceremonial first shot. It is followed by a cannon blast, which will mark the start of the tournament.
