VIDALIA, GA (WTOC) - World famous sweet vidalia onions are on their way to stores.
Georgia Agriculture Commissioner Gary Black set April 18 as the official shipping date when the onions can be sent to market. Growers let the state set the shipping date to keep premature onions off the market and protect the brand's international reputation.
Only farmers in a 20-county region of south Georgia can call their onions vidalias. The vidalia sweet onion crop brings more than $200 million to Georgia's economy.
