Deputies: Man spots burglars taking TV from his home

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, SC (WTOC) - A Hilton Head man is in custody in connection with the burglary of a north end home.

Deputies arrived at about 11:45 p.m. Saturday to a home on Oakview Road on a report of a burglary in progress.

The 28-year-old man told deputies that he came home to find he'd come home to two males removing property from his residence.

He said he was one his way to a friend's house when he saw a person walking in his neighbor's backyard. About a half hour later, the victim decided to check on his own home because he was suspicious of the man he saw earlier, according to the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office.

He saw a black male carrying a TV from his home and another man on the front porch. He yelled to the intruders and they both ran, leaving the stolen TV behind.

The victim tried chasing down the suspects, then contacted authorities.

Deputies searched the area and located a man identified as 19-year old Kareem Joseph Stevens, in the area of 520 Spanish Wells Road, according to the sheriff's office.

Stevens was positively identified as one of the suspects seen in the victim's home.

All of the victim's stolen property was recovered. No one was injured during the incident.
