SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - Georgia resident, Kathy Parker, spoke to the Savannah Rotary Monday afternoon.
She's part of Athletes To Champions and one of their better known projects was bringing an astro-turf football field to the far reaches of Barrow, Alaska.
She said since that project, the students there have turned their lives around.
"In Barrow, Alaska, we saw an amazing change in the youth. We showed them love, gave them an opportunity to play a sport and get active and have something to have some pride in, and it worked. Attendance rate is at an all time high and teen suicide is at an all time low," said Parker.
Parker encouraged others to get involved, be it down the street or 4,000miles away like she did.
