Our Coastal Georgia and South Carolina area dodged a major bullet last Saturday, as severe storms ravaged parts of the Southeast, which might very well have included our own, two-state communities, but, mercifully, they slipped on by. Over 40 deaths resulted overall. About half of them in North Carolina alone.
Blessed with military units and installations throughout our coastal, two-state area, along with a rich-bounty of service veterans and retirees, you would likely want to know that the two major installations in North Carolina, the Army's Fort Bragg and the Marine Corps' Camp Lejeune, were both hit by the storms, sustained damage and suffered some injuries, but thankfully no deaths reported. Both installations were closed to all but key personnel for at least a day, to enable full damage assessment and establish repair priorities.
We were truly blessed to have been outside the cross-hairs of the many tornadoes that left destruction and death in their wake. And we're saddened by the damage sustained elsewhere, both to property and to lives. As always, our salute and thanks to all of the first-responders, throughout our area, who stood ready, as they always are, to assist, had those savage storms placed us in their path.
