SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - A dump truck slammed into an apartment building late Thursday morning, killing the driver.
Just after 11 a.m. Thursday, a 1995 dump truck driven by Albert Frazier, 71, was traveling north bound on White Bluff Road when his vehicle struck a Seaport Landscaping truck and trailer driven by Deshun Boon, 32, as he attempted a left turn into Clover Village apartment complex, according to the Savannah-Chatham Metro Police Dept.
The dump truck veered off the roadway, jumped the curb and struck the apartment building.
Structural engineers determined the building would need to be supported before the truck could be removed, and Savannah firefighters helped shore up the building for support, according to police.
After the truck was pulled out, Savannah firefighters used Sawzall's and the Jaws of Life to extract Frazier. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
One person from the apartments was transported to the hospital with minor injuries.
Eight residents will have to be relocated. The building has been declared unstable.
White Bluff Road was shut down in both directions until 3:30 p.m. All lanes are now reopen. An investigation continues into the crash.
