Event to focus on gun background check reform

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - Savannah Mayor Otis S. Johnson will join family members of gun violence victims Monday as part of a national campaign to urge Congress to fix the gun background check system, according to the Fix the Gun Checks Campaign.

The event takes place at 11 a.m. Monday in the Savannah Civic Center parking lot. The Fix Gun Checks truck displays the number of Americans killed with guns and has a running tally of victims since the Tucson, Ariz., tragedy.

Nearly 4,000 Georgians and 250,000 Americans have already signed a petition supporting the Fix Gun Checks plan, according to the organization.
